About the Artist
Dharmasuri
My name is Dharmasuri, a name I was given in
2006 as part of my ordination into the Triratna Buddhist Community. Since retiring as an accountant, I have found engagement creating art very satisfying. They offer me a place to focus with no sense of time passing or awareness of my surroundings. This is like the higher levels of consciousness I gain during meditation.
To help with recovery from a brain injury, I enrolled in my first metalsmithing class in 2017 at the Maine College of Art. Encouraged by the joy it offered me and my love for the work and creative process, I enrolled in 2 more. Praise from friends and family have encouraged me to continue. I mostly work with sterling silver, copper, and brass. I have a home-based workshop that has grown sufficiently over the past 2+ years.
In January 2020, I attended my first acrylic painting class in Fernandina Beach offered by a local artist. I realized I had a talent for painting. I found I could paint rather than take an afternoon nap leaving me feeling just as rested and refreshed.
Julia, my new artist friend supported my painting efforts, but felt I needed to learn how to draw, too. The time I spend drawing has helped my painting tremendously. Julia was also my teacher at a local Art Studio teaching monoprint, a technique using gel packs and acrylic paint. Through it, I found yet another creative outlet that has brought a great state of furthered my artistic satisfaction.
My mindfulness practice of being in the moment with awareness remains an important source for me as I grow personally and artistically.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or would like to make an offer on any of my pieces of art. My inventory consists of art that I have not been able to post yet on my website. There are always new pieces. Plus, perhaps you have something in mind that I can create and make real for you. Thank you for your loving support.
